It\’s a great book with a lot of make-your-life-as-a-BI-specialist much simpler best practices. There are too many variables in the cube design; sometimes a supposedly "right" design will make things much harder. SSAS field is still very young and there are lot to learn. There is no such book as MDX cookbook as T-SQL cookbook has been out there for years. There are a lot of trial and errors involved. Fortunately I started from a simple enough model and I am the only one in my branch who knows anything about SSAS. Also fortunately I spent a year in Microsoft learning tips and tricks from the experts. People are doing things a lot differently from the textbook!
Yeah, I think the book is great too. This book, as it said, has strong opinions from the authors. But I really like it. Each opinion comes with the thoughts behind it and it really makes sense to follow the suggestion.Similar to you, I am the only one who knows SSAS in my company. Fortunately, I am able to play a "power" role to define policies and framework of our projects. Unfortunately, I have huge pressure and responsibilities that I have to make things performed well.
